World Environment Day 2024 - organized by Agami Education Foundation

A day-long event on World Environment Day was organized by Agami Education Foundation (AEF) as part of the ''Life is Fun'' science education programme, in collaboration with Probha Aurora, a social enterprise focused on climate change.  The theme of this event was “Actions for Restoration”, and the main objective of this programme was to teach the students about the steps they can take to help protect the environment. The celebration of this event took at Saffron Auditorium in Muhammadpur on 1st June 2024.

The country head of UNESCO in Bangladesh, Dr. Susan Weiss, was present at the inauguration program. Special guests who attended this event included Prof. Kazi Madina, Dr. M A Sattar Mondal, Architect Salma A. Shafi, Dr. Abu Jamil Faisal, Dr. Aftab Uddin and Dr. Enamul Haque (Executive Director of SOS). Other attendees include Nafisa Khanom (Lead of Teachers Training Program), Bidhan Chandra Pal (Founder and MD of Probha Aurora), Nehreen Majed (Director of Programs, AEF, and lead-coordinator, LIF), and  Sharmin Kabir (Senior Teacher, Holy Cross Girls’ High School).

About 50 students from 7 schools participated in the event this year. A total of 15 projects were presented to guests and judges. 

 The projects submitted by the participants were on issues which are regarded as very important topics in today’s world, such as production of hydroelectricity, environmental restoration, reducing temperature levels in city areas with high levels of pollution, etc. 

The event was started off with some heartfelt words from Nehreen Majed, Director of Programs, AEF, which was followed by brief speeches from the judges and cheif guests. Dr. Weiss told everybody a wonderful story about a little girl in Nairobi who discovered her passion for the environment and the steps she took to achieve her goals. 

Students were also encouraged to take part in climate activism and help safeguard the environment. Moreover, Mr. Bidhan said a few words in appreciation of AEF for collaborating with Porbha Aurora to organize this wonderful event, and highlighted the students’ creativity and the visionary projects they created.

After the introductory speeches by the guests and judges, teams from the different schools began introducing themselves and describing their projects one by one. Under the spotlight of the camera and the attention of over 50 people, the students fared quite well, providing all features and functions of their creations, leaving no room for doubt as for their creativity.

The prize distribution ceremony was held at (time)pm, where the judges and the special guests distributed the awards of the individual categories: Primary and secondary level.
By taking part in these events, students get to have their knowledge on the environment thoroughly tested, and get the opportunity to display their capabilities and creativity.
