History of Agami
The idea of Agami started in 1989, when Dr. Babu Rahman was in graduate school and raised $1500 for those who had been devastated by a cyclone in Bangladesh. However, he had depended on another national organization to use the funds as they saw fit and Babu had no idea whether the funds had reached those who needed it most. With the support of Babu’s father, Mizan Rahman, he was able to come up with the name Agami which translates from Bangla to English as “future.” Education being the strongest enabler of lasting socio-economical change for the future of Bangladesh through underprivileged children.
In 2002, Mizan had introduced Babu to Dr. Sabir Majumder and Dr. Abu Hassan and together they were able to begin the fundraising effort and control on the transfer and use of funds in Bangladesh. A year later Agami was incorporated as a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. They raised $1500 for their first project, a school in Comilla and has since then grown to what Agami is today.
